We have got here! End of continental section of the route. Here for 4 days, then to Scotland and Shetland and to continue.
We got out of Stavanger with only one mistake as to directions, definitely below average for us. Then on a ferry, first of three, to the start of the string of islands between Stavanger and Bergen. This to a place called Skudenthaven, where there was a fair on. Then on to a place called Haugasund where finding the campsite was the usual problem, but resolved by asking the way. Haugasund is in the area that they call the birthplace of Norway, where a certain king Harald Fairhair convinced various tribal chieftains to accept him as king, by the usual methods. He comes (adversely) in the one Icelandic saga I have read. Got lost leaving Haugasund (of course) then on to next ferry. Various up and downs (always up after down) and over two big suspension bridges to the island of Stort, and to the campsite in Laervik. Thoughts of the Lerwick we hope to get to eventually. We arrived wet and tired, but got a reduction on a cabin on the campsite, one supposes because it was late, we hesitated when told the full price and it was not likely anyone else would come and take it.
Next day, guess it, butt we got lost leaving Laervik. Sorted that out and cycled to the North of the Island. Final ferry journey and then finally on to Bergen. Not sure we would make it and were considering stopping sooner, but some super-fast cyclists stopped and spoke to us and said Bergen was only an hour on. We knew it wasn't but this encouraged us. Past ruins of an old Cistercian monastery in a wonderfully peaceful setting. Then up an endless hill and down the other side, then into the South part of Bergen. On the way up, walking of course, observed where someone had dumped an old cooker and someone else an old TV over the edge of the road in a pine forest. The road was up in a big way (extending the light rail system) so got lost again; by this time quite late and on Sunday, so few people to ask. But we did find the campsite. Then, today, the last 10km into Bergen itself.
There is internet in the flat we are sharing with a friend. Am very aware that the last few entries have been rather dull. We will try to make less dull entries, and maybe a few pictures, in the next few days.
