After the last entry, we got caught in appalling weather. From the camp site after the up-and-down bit, it was not too far to Egelsund. But when we got there, the heavens opened, there was thunder and lightning and all that sort of thing. After spinning out time in the town, as cycling on seemed a dire option, we decided to spend the night there and booked a cabin in the campsite. Whereupon the rain stopped. But not for long; it rained and thundered most of the night. The next day, we made up the lost distance with a short train ride, then resumed the cycle route in cloudy weather, but not rain. Part of this was on dirt roads close to the sea, very beautiful and wild, particularly when the rain began again. We stopped at an art exhibition miles from anywhere and had lunch there while the worst of the rain passed. Then on in the rain, which eventually stopped, to be replaced by strong wind against. This was how is was to Stavanger, where we had already booked B&B accommodation.
Why come to Stavanger? It is not on the direct North Sae route, but is a regional centre; it is actually the oil centre for Norway, but that is incidental except there is a rather good museum about North Sea oil. Also a Romanesque cathedral and other museums. And we have just had a day off here! We needed it if only to get things dry, but a rest is good. We resume cycling tomorrow, with forecast of strong winds against.
