It is Saturday now. Yesterday had elements of Friday 13th about it, in the form of a diversion that entailed cycling across a field and a bit of "you can't miss it" so of course we did. The latter actually took us along a superb cycle path by the sea, an alternative route, after a really helpful man had gone a long way to show us where to go. But it ended in an industrial site and we unwisely exited on what turned out to be a motorway, with fortunately very little traffic.
We are in Wilhemshaven, staying in the YMCA and even with breakfast "in the price". What luxury! We have found the ferry we intended to take across a narrow strait does not start until June so will cycle round the lagoon it links to the sea, the Jadesbuson" for today. I am writing this directly into "blogger" and that means I cannot see the previous entries as I do so. But I think it was about the last bit of the Dutch section of the route. We have been in Germany since then. Topologically, it is pretty much the same - flat, very flat, which gives the wind its opportunity to blow things around. But the last couple of days it blew us along and was behind us! Lots of wind turbines; if you want to check the wind direction, there is always one in sight. We crossed the border near Weener and the next day went via Emden where I posted that last entry. Then we continued, spending a night on Nordeney, one of the string of islands. Early morning bike ride to see a little bit of the wildness of the place. Then on to next stop in a place called Carolinensiel. Then it was Fri 13th and I am unfair to the spirit of that day, because we were greatly helped by the wind and did all of 78 kilometres, a lot for us.
I will stop this now as it is breakfast time. Either of us may resume after.
Tom
